Fungi are not included among the plant kingdom because they cannot produce their own food through photosynthesis. Unlike plants, fungi lack chloroplasts and chlorophyll and instead obtain nutrients by absorbing them from their environment. Fungi have a unique cell wall structure made of chitin, not cellulose, and are more closely related to animals.
